Geraldine Laly has always known she would become an artist. Her love of painting and of colors settled in over the years along with a visceral urge to transpose her emotions and find a channel for her bursts of creativity. After practicing painting at the Grande Chaumière Academy in Paris, the workshop of notorious painters such as Gauguin, Modigliani, Lhote, she then continued to master her technique at the Paris Ecole des Beaux-Arts.
Geraldine’s work is deeply concerned with color, combining expressionist and representational forms with a harmonious narrative. Her compositions are wonderfully balanced with pastel-like colors and unrefined movement. With an often ode to the sea, Geraldine’s works have a unpretentious imagery, epitomizing the simple, hospitable yet intimate life of a small coastal town in her French homeland.
Geraldine works by easily switching from paintbrush to camera with her eyes attentive on capturing a moment. Meanwhile, back at the workshop, photos and paintings intertwine through the creation of collages and the working of materials. They become one in subtle alchemy.
Geraldine has widely exhibited throughout Paris and greater France since 2006. More recently, she has had her work included in permanent exhibitions in Geneva and has shown in art fairs in the United States during Miami Art Week and at the 21st edition of Art Palm Beach.
