Joyce is an internationally collected multidisciplinary painter and sculptor living and working in Toronto. While her main focus is Abstract Expressionist painting, she also has a passion for sculpting, painting and drawing the human form for which she was academically trained at the Academy of Realist Art in Toronto.
Her abstract work is bold and entirely conceptual. She creates with a gestural brushwork to convey emotion and reaction. She begins by randomly applying a heavy-bodied Gesso base to the canvas to create an impromptu geometric design. Using this design as a template for acrylic paint application, she employs large brushes and palette knives allowing the paint freedom to drip while scraping out areas of interest to reveal the underpainting.
Joyce opened the Studio Vogue Gallery in Toronto in 2007 where she represented herself along with twenty other artists. In 2015 she sold the gallery in order to focus entirely on her own work. Over the last twelve years, Joyce has exhibited in solo and group shows within Canada, the United States and worldwide. Featured on several occasions in American Art Collector magazine since 2009, her work is found in private and public collections in Canada, the USA, and Europe.
Joyce was born in Montreal, Quebec. Joyce has been most influenced by the Abstract Expressionist movement of post World War II America such as the works of Robert Motherwell, Franz Kline and Hans Hofmann.
